Participation in COSTEA

Created in June 2013 under the aegis of the Association Française pour l'Eau, l'Irrigation et le Drainage durable (AFEID), and financed by Technical and Financial Partners, including the Agence Française de Développement (AFD), the COmité Scientifique et Technique de l'Eau Agricole (COSTEA) is a community of experts and practitioners in irrigated agriculture, with diverse professions, skills and geographical origins. It works with and for network member countries.

It contributes to the co-construction of knowledge and operational references, and to the sharing and debate of ideas on issues related to irrigated agriculture, in its broadest sense and diversity. Its mission is to lead actions that contribute to the improvement of public policies in the irrigated agriculture sector in member countries. Its geographic focus is on Sub-Saharan Africa, the Mediterranean and South-East Asia, as well as Latin America and Central Asia. Its aim is to contribute to the renewal of irrigated agricultural practices and policies to meet the challenges of climate change and food security/sovereignty.

Its specific objectives are:

1. Produce new knowledge on agroecological transition, adaptation of irrigated agriculture to climate change and mitigation of its impacts;
2. Promote COSTEA's expertise and productions internationally;
3. Institutionalize COSTEA, make it visible and inclusive, and strengthen the network of practitioners and public decision-makers in the irrigated agriculture sector.

• BRL Ingénierie contributes to the implementation of COSTEA as a founding member of AFEID, which manages COSTEA;
• BRL Ingénierie employees, members of the COSTEA network, take part in working groups, productions and thematic discussions led by COSTEA;
• BRL Ingénierie has provided the COSTEA project manager for over three years, with the task of coordinating and managing its Permanent Technical Secretariat (PTS). This executive body of COSTEA continuously ensures the emergence and formulation, monitoring and evaluation, valorization, coherence and transversality of COSTEA's actions. It leads the network, ensures its influence through active communication, and maintains an ongoing dialogue with member countries and financial partners.
