Multi-hazard early warning system (SAP) for the WAP complex (W-Arly-Pendjari)
Flood, drought and forest fire alerts
Project
description
The overall objective of this service is to provide the WAP (W-Arly-Pendjari) complex with tools for managing climate hazards, enabling better adaptation and greater resilience of ecosystems and populations to the effects of climate change. This involves setting up a dynamic multi-hazard early warning system for drought, floods, wildfires and human-wildlife conflicts, adapted to the current socio-economic, security and climatic context of the complex area.
Missions
& Services
The aim of the service was to design, develop and implement a SAP-MR system that would be effective, sustainable and easy to use by stakeholders, in order to better manage the risks and hazards associated with climate change in the context of insecurity in the WAP complex area. This included :
- Carry out the preliminary investigations and diagnostics required to implement the SAP-MR;
- Design a dynamic SAP-MR prototype adapted to the current socio-economic, security and climatic context of the WAP complex area;
- Identify the equipment needed to implement SAP-MR at regional, national and local levels;
- Develop and install the SAP-MR at regional, national and local levels;
- Train and build the capacity of members of the various SAP-MR management units (technical operator profiles), at both national and regional levels, in the parameterization and operational use of SAP-MR;
- Enhance the skills of local managers and players (IT specialists) in system administration and maintenance.
