Helping the Nepalese government improve water resources governance at the river basin scale
With its Green, Resilient and Inclusive Development (GRID) program
Project
description
This project aims to help the Nepalese government improve the governance of water resources at the river basin scale, in accordance with its Green, Resilient and Inclusive Development (GRID) program. The objective is to guarantee an optimized distribution of water between different users and the environment, while strengthening water security and the capacity to adapt to climate change.
Missions
& Services
BRL Ingénierie is supporting the government in identifying the status of water use, key stakeholders, local perceptions of the resource and the state of water governance in two Nepalese sub-basins. Numerous key informant interviews and focus group discussions identified key needs and gaps in water management. On this basis, a strategy for communicating and mobilizing key players to make Integrated Water Resources Management operational will be developed. This will be accompanied by national and local workshops to share findings and contribute to the dialogue on IWRM.
"The challenge is to move beyond theoretical discussions and sets of laws to the practical implementation of integrated water resource management. Encouraging political and civic dialogue will help inform water management planning and strategies for mobilizing stakeholders and institutions."
