Supervision of the pre-investment study for the CHINECAS irrigation project in Peru

On 3 November 2025 in Lima, the Regional Government of Áncash approved the pre-investment studies for the Chinecas irrigation project, conducted by the private investment promotion agency ProInversión Perú. BRL Engineering supervised these studies as part of a project management assistance mission. The Chinecas Special Project (https://www.investinperu.pe/proinversion-culmino-estudios-de-preinversion-del-nuevo-proyecto-de-irrigacion-chinecas/) is one of the country's most important water programmes. It aims to rehabilitate and develop more than 120,000 hectares of agricultural land that is currently under-exploited due to a chronic water shortage. The project includes: the abstraction of 65 m³/s from the Santa River, which originates in the Andean watersheds; the construction of four dams, representing a total storage volume of 510 million m³; the construction of nearly 180 km of canals, tunnels and penstocks.

Alongside the Peruvian engineering firm HC&A, BRL Ingénierie assisted the Regional Government of Áncash in supervising the feasibility studies. Our involvement drew on several areas of expertise: hydrology and sustainable water resource management, irrigation system design and optimisation, mechanical and electrical equipment, and automation.
