SPICy Project : system for forecasting marine and river floods of cyclonic origin

Project’s Objectives: 

SPICy's objective is to develop the technological bricks necessary to set up a system for forecasting marine and river floods of cyclonic origin for the Overseas Territories.

The project proposes a holistic approach by working simultaneously on the entire forecast chain, from weather models to flood models. Beyond the elaboration of a tool, SPICy integrates a review of the concrete needs of local managers in order to better define the nature and production processes of adequate and useful information in crisis situations.

Reunion Island, which is regularly affected by tropical cyclones, was chosen as a pilot site. Different scales of work are tackled, from the island to the local sites of Sainte-Suzanne, Saint-Paul and the RN1 coastal road.

The SPICy project was selected by the ANR (Agence Nationale de la Recherche) as part of the 2014 generic call for projects. It is part of Challenge 1 "Sober resource management and adaptation to climate change".
